Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security promotes sustainable farming, enhances local food production, supports agricultural livelihoods, and ensures Barbados’ long-term food security. The ministry works with farmers, agribusinesses, and communities to develop agricultural capacity and maintain the viability of farming in the modern economy.
Extension Services: Registered farmers receive direct support from agricultural extension officers who conduct field visits, provide crop and livestock management advice, identify market opportunities, and help implement sustainable practices. Training workshops cover everything from vegetable cultivation to beekeeping and value-added products.
Farming Credit and Support: The ministry helps farmers access affordable credit for equipment, seeds, and operating costs. Subsidised farming inputs and equipment are available through designated channels.
Food Security Initiatives: Programmes support local food production, home and community gardens, school agricultural education, and market linkages between small farmers and consumers.
