Land Registry (Land Tax Department)

The Land Registry, operating as part of the Land Tax Department, maintains the official register of all land and property ownership in Barbados. The registry provides title searches, records property transfers, manages land valuations, and administers land tax collections — ensuring clear property ownership and secure real estate transactions.

Title Searches: Anyone can request a certified title search to verify property ownership, identify lienholders, and review a property’s legal history. Searches are essential before purchasing property or securing property-based loans, and are typically completed within 5–10 business days.

Land Tax Administration: The department conducts periodic property valuations to ensure fair land tax assessments. Landowners receive assessments and can appeal valuations they believe are incorrect. Payment plans are available for tax arrears.

Property Transfers: All property sales, inheritances, and gifts must be recorded with the Land Registry. Legal representatives work with the registry to ensure transfers are properly documented and the register is updated.
