Barbados Licensing Authority

The Barbados Licensing Authority oversees the licensing system for businesses, trades, and special activities, ensuring compliance with regulations and fair competition. The authority issues various types of licences and permits required for the legal operation of commercial enterprises and public events.

Business Licensing: New businesses must obtain a business licence prior to opening. The licence confirms the business has been registered with the government, meets regulatory requirements, and is authorised to operate. Licence types vary based on business activity (retail, service, professional, etc.).

Trades and Professions: Licensed trades including plumbing, electrical installation, and air conditioning require specific trade licences demonstrating competency. Applicants must typically provide proof of training, experience, or certification.

Special Event Permits: Permits are required for festivals, concerts, sporting events, and temporary trading. Applications should be submitted well in advance of the event. The authority evaluates public safety and regulatory compliance.

Licence Renewal: Licences must be renewed annually. Renewal notifications are sent to licence holders. Licences may be suspended for non-renewal or regulatory violations.
