UWI’s 3Ws Oval is READY!
As excitement builds across the region ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, the 3Ws Oval at The UWI Cave Hill Campus is again playing a major role in the hosting of a prestigious world cricket tournament. On Friday, ground curators and others were busy putting finishing touches on field preparations for a warm up match between Australia and Namibia, slated for June 1.
The ninth edition of the tournament, which runs from June 1-29, bowls off with USA playing Canada in Dallas, Texas, while Barbados’ historic Kensington Oval will host Namibia and Oman on June 2.
Matches will also be played in the Caribbean countries of Antigua, Guyana, St Lucia, St Vincent, and Trinidad, as well as the US States of Florida and New York.
This is the second time the campus is featuring in a major international competition, the first being the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup which was held in the Caribbean. On that occasion, warm up matches were also held at the 3Ws Oval, named after the famed Barbadian and West Indies trio of Sir Frank Worrell, Sir Clyde Walcott and Sir Everton Weekes.
