South Africa secured a nervy three-wicket win over West Indies in a rain-reduced match to advance to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2024. They successfully chased a revised target of 123 runs, thanks to a crucial innings from Heinrich Klaasen and a winning six from Marco Jansen. This victory knocked co-hosts West Indies out of the tournament.

South Africa’s bowlers, especially the spinners, played a key role by restricting West Indies to 135 for 8. Roston Chase top-scored for West Indies with 52 runs, while Tabraiz Shamsi was the pick of the bowlers for South Africa with figures of 3 for 27. South Africa’s chase was tense, with rain interrupting play and reducing the target. Despite early setbacks and losing several wickets, South Africa managed to reach the target, with Jansen and Kagiso Rabada holding their nerve at the end.

This win marked South Africa’s first T20 World Cup knockout appearance in a decade, showcasing a newfound tenacity and strategic approach under captain Aiden Markram. The team has remained undefeated in the tournament and looks poised for a strong finish, possibly avoiding a semi-final clash with India.
