Ongoing efforts to refresh and rebrand Barbados’ tourism industry to ensure continued attraction to global travelers. Traditionally known for its sea, sand, and sun, Barbados has diversified its offerings with events like the Crop-Over Festival, various sports, and cultural activities. The growing trend of niche markets in tourism, particularly highlighting the potential of “halal tourism.”

“Halal tourism” caters to Muslim travelers who seek destinations that align with their dietary and religious needs. This market is rapidly growing, especially among young, educated, and upwardly mobile Muslims in North America and Europe. Barbados, with its mature tourism infrastructure and existing Muslim community, is well-positioned to tap into this market.

Suleiman Bulbulia, a key advocate for promoting halal tourism in Barbados, has been working with the Barbados Tourism Product Authority to train and sensitize stakeholders in the tourism industry. Despite some initial reluctance, Bulbulia believes there is significant untapped potential and stresses the importance of marketing Barbados as a halal-friendly destination to attract these discerning travelers and boost economic growth.

This is especially important during this year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where tourists and competing teams from all over the world are coming to Barbados!
